Not everyone wants to live in the US....
Some people don't want to live in the US.
Even if family-based, you need to be on the more ambitious side to make the move to a different country, most likely a quarter to half the world away. Many Americans seem to think that everyone in a third-world country wants to move to the US. This is not true. Only a small subset is actually willing to uproot themselves into a new nation with a different language, culture and society for the sake of their future generations. Even if you ask the people here on H1B, many of them will tell you tha
That some poor guys are trying to get to your country doesn't mean much, this can be said about most countries in the world these days in some way or the other. Its not easy, and often even feasible for people to move their life, probably forever, half around the world. I claim from my experience that most americans have no clue how life is different compared to say some western europe country. You can't grasp it from internet, nor few days tourist visit. And another claim - if they
yours is the bubble. reality is that most people want to move to the US and are happy there.
There seems to be an implicit assumption that every body wants to emigrate to the US.I don't that is true. If given the choice a lot of people would choose to stay. Sure, you can have more material things, but you will have to go to a strange place, far from friends and family, where you are just a stranger, that possible don't even speak the language.People who decide to emigrate is because they have strong reasons. Either your situation is desperate or your are very courageous, or both.
Yep, I'm looking to move to one of those places rather than argue with USA folks about how they don't work.
My $0.02: there are a lot of reasons to want to move to the US that are completely unrelated to job opportunities.
If you walked into a household in a poor country and just offered them zero-friction citizenship to the US/UK/CA/Europe for their whole family, with the promise of a decent job etc. - no strings attached ... the number would be extremely high. There is a difference between “people who want to move to the US” and “people who want to move to another richer country”.I’ve asked people on HN why don’t they move from thier country in the EU with less opportunity to a country
Why would bright folks in the US leave the comfort and familiarity of their home to work elsewhere in the US? Or if you think that's a false analogy then keep in mind that there are plenty of European, Kiwi, Aussie, Canadian etc. immigrants to US as well. There are plenty of reasons to leave the country you are born in, and not all of them implies that you had it worse before. Wanting to get away from comfort and familiarity is in itself a reason to emigrate.
