france isn't us, but we've seen how dangerous it is, instead of hoping to not get in this situation ever, why not engrave this in constitution so that changing it again would be extremely hard?

"Changing it" woukd require a constitutional amendment, which is a near impossibly in today's landscape.When the corrective mechanism is nearly impossible to invoke, it doesnt really matter who wants what.

Congress cannot amend the constitution as easily as it can pass a law. The States have to agree to it as well.
