Using a similar idea is one thing, but cloning is another. They don't just take the concepts, they rip of the design as well. If you look at the Samwer's version of Fab (which is shut down now), they completely ripped off the look and feel, you can see a screen cap and read this article http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-02-29/the-germany-...
Because they've blatantly copied someone's design? It's not like a new car company starts with someone else's body shape until they can design their own car or copies their TV ad for a few months. I can appreciate that Square might've OKed this or look kindly on a temporary copy from a startup, but for about the same level of effort they could've differentiated their site a fair bit more (even just a different hue for the background).
The design is not his design. Please compare the two before jumping to that conclusion. The copy has stripped all unique elements of Dustin's design.http://obtvse.herokuapp.com http://dcurt.is
It would be helpful if you could post the designs side by side so we could all judge if you have copied the design. If you haven't, they are simply in the wrong and you should re-publish you site. Got to love HN, if someone copies a startup pixel by pixel and business modell, hulla, the lynch mob readies it's pitchforks. If someone copies a freelancers design, website or logo, woha, people run amok. If someone copies Apples UI, hardware, apps and app market it's "Apple Never Invented Anything."
Is the only reason we're ok with this blatant design ripoff because OP is "one of us"? It's basically a clone with only the colour changed.
lol.. mate.. appreciate your hard work.. but i guess it doesnt take much time for anyone to guess that you have simply stolen basecamp's design?ROFL..get some originality dude... u "may" ve gotten an awesome product... but do try to stick to a bit of ethics and not copy other websites designs..P.S.the pricing page is an exact copy of basecamp!
Look at the badges on the front page, it's kinda hard to argue that they weren't copying the design.
At what point does it become a concern when you're just ripping off the UI of a competing product?
That might be the case, but it doesn't make it ok for TextNut to clone 75% of their UI
