Duplicates are allowed if a post hasn't gotten much attention in a while. Sometimes HN will auto-repost your post. It's not a bug, it's a feature!
Extensive recent discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13580390Since you're the same person who submitted the original (plus another two, 14 and 44 days ago), please note the following from the HN FAQ[1]:"Are reposts ok?If a story has had significant attention in the last year or so, we kill reposts as duplicates. If not, a small number of reposts is ok."
It's important to understand that this submission doesn't count as a dupe by HN's standards. On HN, reposts are fine after a year or so, and/or if an article hasn't had significant attention before (the latter isn't the case here, but often is). https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.htmlPeople post links to past discussions are not because they're bad (look at
This is a dupe of https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9951989. On HN, once a story has had significant attention, reposts are treated as duplicates (i.e. demoted) for about a year.https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html
On HN, it only counts as a dupe if the story has had significant attention already (see https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html). This one hadn't, so the repost is ok. The reason we allow this is to give good submissions multiple chances at getting attention. Otherwise it's far too random what gets traction off /newest.
Reposts are allowed on HN if a story hasn't had significant attention yet (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html). Links to previous submissions aren't helpful if there's no actual discussion at the other end, which explains the downvotes here.Your post beat this one in time but this one won the luck of the draw. Sorry about that. We're hoping to change the duplicate de
Don't delete and resubmit posts to HN. This is the third time I've seen this post in as many days.
On HN, reposts of an article aren't considered dupes until the article has had significant attention. This is in the FAQ: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html.It's also not the convention to link to previous submissions unless there are actual discussions there. (That's no doubt why users flagged your comment.)
Indeed. This is an intentional dupe on the part of the submitter. Per https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html: “If a story has had significant attention in the last year or so [as this one did], we kill reposts as duplicates.”
A few months ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23203658. (Once a submission has had significant attention, we mark reposts as dupes for a year or so. See https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html.)Also a big discussion from last year: <a href="https://news.ycombinator.com&
