Mozilla is a non-profit organization. Any money that they make, they have to reinvest into Firefox or other Mozilla projects. There's not some guy getting rich from you helping them out. All the help that you invest will eventually fall through to users in some way.
Mozilla Corporation is a for-profit organization, they can't handle donations. Mozilla Foundation don't need your money and won't use it to fund Firefox.
How does this work with the Mozilla foundation owning a massive for profit company?
That link is for Mozilla Foundation, which is a non-profit and donations to it do not go to the development of Firefox. Mozilla Corporation, the for-profit entity, owns and manages Firefox. The way to support Firefox monetarily is by buying Mozilla VPN where available (this is Mullvad in the backend) and buying some Firefox merchandise (like stickers, t-shirts, etc.). I think an MDN Plus subscription also helps.
Mozilla is both a non-profit foundation and also a corporation. You aren't legally allowed to use charitable donations to fund web browser development, so the corporation has to handle that.
I thought Mozilla was a non-profit fundation?
Does Mozilla provide more than just funding?
You should really read up on where Mozilla's money comes from. See the financing section of https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Foundation
I would fund Firefox, not Mozilla. I learned from all the recent discussions that money donated to Mozilla do not go to Firefox. It’s as if Mozilla is structured in a way such that Firefox cannot be community supported.
for Mozilla thats not correct. and i think you know it but might have skin in the game?if honestly misguided, go ahead and take a look on where Mozilla waste money. it's hard to parse on their reports but it's all there.then see how much goes into actual browser vs how much they got by donations and revenue of the fund. the fat is not the browser.also they would still be getting user donation if they didn't go full dark side and burned that bridge.
