If you install the 'Dark Reader' browser extension, you can get dark mode on sites that don't have a native dark theme (such as HN!)
Why don't you use Dark Reader extension instead?
The Chrome extension Dark Reader works very well on Hacker News. It's hit or miss on other sites and can create some disturbing SVGs.
On Chrome, I use the Dark Reader extension. Works perfectly well with HN, and I use it with many, many other websites.
