Bar Drink Prices
Commenters debate the high cost of drinks, especially alcohol, in bars and pubs compared to stores or home consumption, attributing it to operational expenses, space rental, and business models rather than alcohol production costs alone.

They sell alcohol, I would imagine that would be worth taking to some.
Don't buy rounds - they lead to excess drinking. People should be buying their own drinks.
yes but only for beer in bars though.
Bars and pubs aren't really competing against the store or restaurants, they're competing against you drinking alone or with only close friends. If stepping in to have a beer and shoot the shit would cost a significant chunk of a day's wages, you just won't do it, but if I can buy more beer with an hours wages than I can drink in an hour, it's not a bad time.
Consider donating to the pub, the money you'd have spent :-)
It's so weird. If you go to a bar with your friends you pay more for a single beer, and people spend so much time on these apps.
Some portion of alcohol prices are a barrier to entry to create the desired crowd. You might not want to attract the type of person looking to get shitfaced for cheap. Usually, non alcoholic non tap water is not way cheaper, especially if it is a “mocktail”.Of course, some portion is also high rents. And I have never seen a restaurant or bar outside of Costco with free refills for anything other than tap water though.
Yeah at the end of the day they are renting a space in NYC and not charging an entry fee. Most of the cost of drinks at a bar are for things other than the alcohol itself. Also, it sounds like they are offering expensive juices and other ingredients to make up the money not spent on alcohol.
Very common practice everywhere. When you sit at a bar and only order food, they usually lose money. Profits come from drinks.
Hell, a beer costs more than that in some towns.
