I don't want any algorithms, AI or human, curating my default feed. I want my feed to be a chronologically-ordered listing of the content creators I choose to follow and like. If I want to explore the algorithm, that should still be possible, but it shouldn't be the default.
Why do all of these social media companies ruin feeds like that? It would be fine if there was a seperate tab for 'best'.. I want to see things as they're posted. No fancy algorithms.
On Bluesky you have different algorithms/feeds which solves this problem. You subscribe to multiple feeds, which show you different content using different moderation and block lists. Sort of like you read different news sites and watch different news channels. Whatever feed you find that you enjoy the most is the one you spend the most time on.
How does the algorithmic feed work?
You understand it, it's just like instagram, facebook, reddit etc, you let them pick something for you via some algo or you order by date.
Switch from algorithmic to chronlogical feed (via the stars icon on the startpage of the app). Then, if you have your followings curated (which you likely already have anyway), you should not get much crap in your feed.
what makes it worse than others with algo feeds?
Why isn't there a setting that you can just choose to see everything in chronological order. That's fine if you want to default people to the algorithm feed. It's just such a simple thing to add.
It is. On Facebook you can sort your feed that way and also on Twitter. Not sure about Instagram. In my opinion, people are bored out of their mind also on a chronological feed from their friends. Not because they dislike their friends, it's just all very repetitive and time-consuming with very little to show for it.
Like any other "algorithm" feed, if you dislike what is engaging the masses then switch to a chronological view and sip from the feed as you will.ie: https://news.ycombinator.com/newest
