I've been trialling Cursor + Claude, I don't think it's that much better?
Where do you see this compared with Cursor or Copilot?
I used Copilot and dropped it when it stopped being free. But Cursor is a different beast - the autocomplete is far better and intuitive. The chat functions like a personal StackOverflow (or just paste an error message for debugging). For me as a senior eng, Cursor is where AI turned the corner from "maybe helpful for fringe / basic things" to "actually amplifies my productivity". Took about 30 min to flip the switch for me, so I suggest you give it a try.
Cursor + Claude 4 = best quality + UX balance. Pay up for 20/month subscription.Cursor imports in your VSCode setup. Setting it up should be trivial.Use Agent mode. Use it in a preexisting repo. You're off the races. There is a lot more you can do, but you should start seeing value at this point.
Cursor is incredible. You can use whatever model you like. Give it your openAI key if you want o1-preview. Using it with Claude Sonnet is usually enough though. I use it everyday and it makes it possible to work between dependencies and it can create and edit files on the fly -- pending your approval of git-vibe diffs it presents to you. I've been programming 19 years and it's honestly a life-changer.
did you try Cursor on the same codebases?
Seems you haven't heard of Cursor 2.0https://cursor.com/blog/2-0
fantastic reply thanks, can I ask if you have tried cursor? I use to use claudecode but it was super expensive and got stuck in loops. ( I know it is cheaper now). Do you have any thoughts?
Can you elaborate? How is it better than Cursor?
Yes, I abandoned Cursor recently and went back to Claude Code. Two main reasons: 1. The “plan mode” for Claude makes it execute complex tasks much more reliably. It automatically keeps track of todos and completes them. With Cursor I’m constantly fighting with it. 2. I can now use my IDE of choice (JetBrains) rather than a poor fork of VS Code. 3. Daily usage limits now included in the monthly $20/month Claude Pro plan seems to be enough for my daily needs. No extra costs.
