Why can't they move to IPv6?

mannyv Nov 22, 2025 View on HN

Moving to IPv6 works until it doesn't.

stefan_ Jun 18, 2023 View on HN

Well thats kinda what happened in IPv6 we were all supposed to move to long ago.

stalfosknight Jul 31, 2023 View on HN

Let's just go full native IPv6 already. Clinging to the past like this doesn't make sense in the long run.

I can't tell whether I'm missing something: how would IPv6 obsolete their work?

throwawaaarrgh Jul 31, 2023 View on HN

IPv6 is still an afterthought for nearly every level of networked software development, and that will probably never change as long as IPv4 is a viable alternative. V6 is just... Annoying, compared to V4. Without a concerted industry wide effort to abandon V4, V6 won't take its place.

It'll be IPv4 -> IPv6 all over again.

Getting with the times these days means adopting ipv6, not putting more bandaids to ipv4

Yes, but like IPV4 to IPV6 transition it's work.

WatchDog Nov 5, 2025 View on HN

Another day, another reason ipv6 should have been ipv4 with more bits.
