It might be something to do with the centuries of colonialism where the natural resources, labour and human lives of entire countries was stolen for the economic benefit of the United Kingdom.
You really need to update your knowledge of history. Look at Belgian, French, Dutch and British colonial empires. Especially the Belgian one and its brutality might interest you. And the British one was active in Middle East waaaay before America.

Well, maybe Britain shouldn't have colonized large areas of the globe and exploited them for resources while keeping the indigenous inhabitants oppressed for centuries, all while preaching the absolute supremacy of British civilization and culture. Hardly seems surprising that some of the people you colonized might want to see what all the fuss is about.
Different times, back during the higjt of the british empire war and colonization have been normal things to do. Even the British were quite aggrez, but still not out of the norm. This whole land grabbing kind of war ended to be a thing with WW 2. So you can still be as aggressive as the British back then, it just manifests itself in different ways. Also, nowadays it is a lot easoer to control countries by economic means alone.
