Have you tried Affinity Photo/Designer?
I used Affinity tools as a better alternative. Are they not a player anymore?
With alternative softwares like Figma, Sketch and Affinity, I've been seeing a lot of designers migrate away. Sadly and tangential to other discussions, Figma is the only one that will run cross-platform being WASM-based.I personally had been holding on to Windows/Mac through college til this subscription model. Since I really only do photo work now, darktable and RawTherapee are great FOSS alternatives. Krita and GIMP get way more flack than they deserve.
On the photoshop/illustrator front I've been really happy with Affinity Photo and Designer, they are good enough that I haven't really missed any functionality, they certainly feel more stable (looking at you illustrator) and they are way cheaper.I wish they would make something that could replace Adobe XD, because adobe XD is terribly slow in adding features and there is a lot of room for improvement there. At first I thought XD was great, but as the app I've been desig
I purchased Pixelmator a long time ago, but have never actually used it. I bought it to do web graphics, but their UI doesn't really speak to me. I've never cared for the floating docks like GIMP uses.Affinity Designer has allowed me to not miss Photoshop/Illustrator at all. It came out right as I was thinking of buying a Mac and switching to Swift development. Saving the monthly Adobe fees helped me justify the cost of a Mac.Also, the new Symbols stuff in Affinity Designer
Adobe feels like it's playing catch-up when it comes to apps optimised for UI design. Programs like Sketch and Figma address this area particularly well.I'm just happy to see more alternatives in the design tools space and to see them thriving. Sketch, Figma, Affinity Designer are all some of the vector alternatives doing well. Affinity works on both Windows and Mac. They have a Photoshop alternative in their Photo app and soon a potential InDesign rival in their Publisher app.
Some things changed for the good the last couple of years.I am programming on Ubuntu (C#, PHP, Javascript) with Jetbrains software. This works absolutely great. For 3D work I use Blender. But for graphical work I agree that there are still alternatives missing.Figma is a very good alternative for Sketch. Scribus is a good alternative for Indesign. Krita is very good for concept art. But that's about it.Inscape is a good alternative for Illustrator, but only if you work in RGB.<
Adobe is not just Photoshop and Illustrator; Affinity is still subpar, and Adobe products are moving fast ahead.
Switched to Affinity, Photo, Designer and Publisher are pretty awesome and a true replacement for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Switched 1.5 years ago, never looked back and saved a lot of money in the process. There are a few things it doesn’t have, but its impressive nonetheless. The devs are very committed to speed and anti bloat.
I've switched to pixelmator and affinity designer and I havent looked back.
