Didn't Google try to disrupt the market with Fiber ?
Fast internet is a complement to Google's services. It's in Google's interest to commoditize fast internet. They're not interested in offering Fiber, they're interested in making the internet faster and cheaper, since that helps there core business. So their Fiber investment was the lowest they could get away with to still make other players believe that they just might be serious about it in 2015.
Deploy Google Fiber everywhere?
It sounds like (b) achieved Google's ends. I don't think they wanted to be in the fiber business. They just wanted everybody to have it so that Google could sell them services over it (including the service of feeding ads to them).
didn't google fiber slow down and effectively stop growing several years ago? what happened?

Now both AT&T along with Time Warner Cable have 1G service throughout parts of the city.Alternatively, one can look at this not as a failure, but as a success. The point of Google fiber was to force carriers to get faster internet to everyone. It appears that it has been working. This benefits google directly as their properties such as Youtube can deliver more and better content. For Google, this is a win/win pr
Google is doing this with Google Fiber and it's not exactly making a ton of progress :(
