It is Hackathon Culture after all; Do something because you can, or just to see what is possible. Unfortunately, you guys are getting lots of negative pushback here. Sometimes, it's not what the Tech does, but how you leverage the Tech, and how you Package your Product. Is this a "just for fun" project, or do you guys plan on going all the way? If the intention here is to build/release a real product, I can see a few potential issues with this approach, some of which are alre
Lol come on Thomas. That is probably the most pathetic comment I’ve seen you write. Worthless internet karma is a validation of your ideas? Did all your upvotes for starfighter on hacker news actually turn it into a real business or was it a failure in real life? Why not try to publicize this ideaand see how much real traction you get? (spoiler alert: zero because most developers don’t want it)
It is funny, and I do think it reflects a lack of imagination. I attended Startup School yesterday and one of my main goals for the day was to find reasons to invalidate the music-site/service/etc. idea I've been working on for the last couple of years. I couldn't find any, so today I'm putting efforts into not pissing it away and launching it this week (or next).Depending on who you mean by the "everyone" who is looking the other way, we may be thinking in similar directions.
You will probably get more responses if you prefix your question with “Ask HN:”.The general consensus is that ideas are dime a dozen, and what matters is execution. I think ideas can also matter sometimes. If you can explain why an idea is going to be successful and what strategy needs to be followed based on user (in this case this is you needing a solution) and competitor research, then your idea is probably valuable.I don’t know if HN is the best place. You might want to consider indie
it is weird how you could ignore new startups, then use their products later this is not just an app i like, i actually was going to build this, but when i saw it, i downloaded, tried it, then forget about it don't be disappointing if small people are using it at the beginning, just keep improving it
Nope! I found a success story on HN and now I'm stealing their idea and making it better, because I see a barely tapped market that deserves a better product.
This argument have been attempted already, you can also take Juicero, "can you just squeeze the bad yourself?" , and was indeed a dumb idea. This "crazy idea" is not removing any friction to regular people, regular people browse youtube, or instagram, tik tok, etc... this is targeted to techies, look at the homepage, people who are pointing out the "crazy new idea" , is neither crazy, new, or good at all, are the target of this product. Just because some successful
online forums like HN and reddit aren't useful for meaningful feedback - seek out local meetups and pitch your idea
I made Idyllic Past[1], a webapp that emails you a weekly comment from your Hacker News and Reddit accounts. The eventual goal was to catalog all the things the user liked on the internet and present random items to him by email.I was hoping to capitalize on nostalgia by running ads in the emails.Unfortunately, I got only 3 signups. The post I made on HN was completely ignored (only about 20 people visited the link), and the post I made on Reddit ended up with a net score of 0.Oh well,
You'll do better showing this to the people who would be your users. Looks like a solid idea to make some money on the side solving a problem you actually have.A lot of people on HN wouldn't be your users. That's fine. Find them and post this there.
