Android never getting updates is not a feature!

It's definitely still a thing, as android updates are normally pushed by the manufacturers. The Android One phones are an exception to this.

Android doesn't have an update problem, Android OEM's do.

Most phones could technically run it but there are no updates supplied by the vendors. That's one of Androids biggest weaknesses. Well, I don't care, I've rooted my device long ago and keep flashing updates :)

That's because Android phones don't get updates

Well, android is open source so manufacturers can add their stuff and manufacturers decide when to update their devices (if at all). Google is being more strict on updates, as well as adding Project Treble which makes updating a device a breeze.

Most manufactures don't update their phones to newer version of Android anyway. I think Google should bite the bullet and upgrade to the newer kernal or atleast inform now that the next year Android will be on the latest kernal so hardware manfacturers should upstreaming their patches.

Android phones don’t tend to get security updates anyway.

Looks plausible reason why recent AndroidOS aren't good upgrade.

That's indeed true. Android phones are not still really updated often and I guess they need to keep backward compatibility for lots of things limiting their options for this kind of tricks.
