Discussions center on the safety, health impacts, and societal implications of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in crops, including debates over pesticide resistance, monocultures, Monsanto practices, and comparisons to natural mutations or selective breeding.

Why is random genetic mutations not a concern but GMO is?

Thought they did that with GMOs already, why would this be news.

GMOs are bad? When did HN become anti-science?

What makes GMO crops bad for health?

See my link above with scientific references. In the same way you can add poison (or herbicides) in non-GMO crops. It does not prove anything.See also: https://xkcd.com/641/.

Citation needed. This is listed as a myth in a NPR article about GMOs:https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2012/10/18/163034053/to...

Equating GMOs and "poison" is intellectually dishonest

ambler0 Nov 12, 2013 View on HN

The issue is not necessarily with genetic modification itself, but the reasons for modification. For example, if a plant is modified to be highly resistant to pesticides, then the concern would be that such plants are saturated with potentially harmful (to the person eating them and the environment) pesticides.Another example would be plants that are modified to be incapable of reproduction (so that the manufacturer can sell them to farmers each season). In this case, the issue is social&#x

GMO's are not perfectly harmless, but nor are they as different from other forms of human manipulation as we have been lead to believe.I've long taken the stance that the bigger issues are agricultural monoculture and proprietary genetics. We should require all to have copyleft genomes and use our large agricultural subsidies to promote genetic diversity in our food supply.
