Netherlands doesn't count, it's a place where cars respect bikes and vice versa. Try riding a bicycle in a country where there's hostility between the two.
that's probably because the streets in the Netherlands are much safer. they often have cycle lanes segregated from traffic. and there is less congestion than other major cities. so bikes come into direct contact with cars far less often

Its a combination of reasons:- Netherlands is compact (10km from town to town, bikable)- Netherlands is flat- Cities are old, and are not easy to navigate with cars- Cars are expensive- Infrastructure is in place (everywhere!)- Bikes are cheap- Biking is healthy- Biking is often faster in cities for Note: If you want bikelanes in your city/country: Just start biking, the more and more people are bik

Here in The Netherlands we use bikes. They're great; so much faster than driving for short distances. It helps that housing is for the vast majority of people within 10-15 mins cycle and the land being flat.
Good. The Netherlands is so flat that there's no legitimate reason not to just use a shitty, beat-up, stealable bicycle like everybody else ;-)
