It’s not intended to be inflammatory. It’s the reality that many people operating vehicles are not aware of your (bike) presence and that their careless actions could easily result in your death or serious injuries. Often times people fail to follow traffic rules and create situations that pose little danger to them but a lot of danger to pedestrians and bike riders.
Sure, when cyclists start killing car drivers.
Sure, but cyclists don't kill other people. Cars do.
There's a paywall, so im missing some context, but seeing what I see every day from cyclists, which can best be surmised as "I'm a car when it's convenient, I'm a person when it's convenient," I'm hesitant to chalk cyclist incidents up to something more than hubris.
There is a logic to it though. On a bicycle you are mostly risking your own life, so you are likely to make good judgements about when you can break the rules. In a car, you are mostly riding other people’s lives (bicyclists and pedestrians). Different incentives.
Yup, bikes don't kill people, people in cars kill everyone around them.
It's not a matter of "things you think are wrong", it's illegal activity. As a cyclist, they are breaking the rules, invading my space, and putting my life at risk by forcing me into car traffic, just to save a few seconds.
Sure. Just like how a reckless driver is traffic too. Doesn't mean cyclists or the reckless drivers are automatically justified.
seems like an reasonable issue, i dont know what bicyclists, and cars for that matter, are doing sometimes either.
I'm sure you'd say the same about cars if you were a cyclist. Both bicycles and cars are driven by humans and they generally don't give a damn about the rules unless they benefit personally. The difference is that cyclists usually endanger themselves, while motorists endanger others.
