i don’t want most of my software to auto update but i certainly want the browser, which ingests untrusted data from unknown sources constantly, to get bug fix updates automatically.
Automatic updates are a good default, you can always disable them if you don't want them.
there is still no reason that updates cant be applied like every other piece of software.
