No one really multitasks, it's all task switching.

Evidence suggests we can't really even do one thing at a time.

People don’t multitask so much as task switch.

If you don't find context switching costly at all, fine. Some of us can't multitask or quickly regain focus.

This is really more about human task-switching...

Thank you for posting this comment. I don't know why but this completely makes me think of context switching in the kernel and everything then becomes clear. I am guilty of "multitasking" and at the end of it accomplishing almost nothing, only recently have I realised the error in my ways. Your recent work and comment are confirmation that focusing on one thing at a time is the way forward when working on substantial tasks.

Context switching and interruptions can make you busy really quickly

Multitasking can go to hell I guess.

Humans aren’t too good at multitasking. Context switching comes at a huge cost. Therefore I try to work on one project at a time. The problem is to say no to all the other interesting projects that present themselves, seducing with their apparent simplicity, while the project currently worked on is stuck in the thicket of nitty gritty. The grass is always greener on the other project’s side ;)
