at the border you are not yet on US soil. They can deny you for any reason at all
"crossing A border" is not the same thing as "crossing the US border".
I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that. Have you ever been searched at a US/Canada land border? It's very unpleasant.
well, you get interrigated at the border because obviously the sentiment that you excuded. Utter confusion... "Why would you want to be here". but after an hour or two and they just realise you are a crazy american that likes the thrill of traveling to places they probably shouldn't be. Not that I have any experience in the matter... ;)
I'm an American living outside the US. While this is true it feels a bit like how pedestrians have the right-of-way at road crossings: you're legally protected, but is right now the time to test how much people are going to respect that?I crossed the US-Canada land border with a non-US friend to go to a birthday party a while back; they sent us to secondary so my friend could get their passport stamped (their previous visa had run out). CBP took the opportunity to search our car and
Depends how much the border officer likes you.
If it makes you feel better, I'm now a US citizen and border patrol still does this stuff to us. I think it's part of their training, and it's definitely unwelcoming. That said, as a visa and greencard holder, I just made sure to always be prepared on crossing and never had a single issue.
Not sure why you're downvoted. This actually happened to me last time I crossed the border.
If you're crossing an international border into the US, they do.
Don't worry they do it to citizens too. On one occasion CBP told me they would not let me enter the country. On another they imprisoned me for ~12 hours, on another they asked me if I work in the US and tried to demand ever more intrusive questions about it.... I am us citizen presenting with us passport, look and talk extremely white with no foreign accent.
