I guess there are not enough bike lanes?
In places with good cycling infrastructure, there are more bikes than cars.
A good reason to build bike infra.
The bicycles should be there instead of road barriers and 1 lane of traffic.
Sounds like a case for dedicated bike lanes/paths to me. Also, this doesn't take into account other externalities of biking v.s. driving (reduced road wear, fewer cars on the road, health benefits...)
Have you ever tried riding a bicycle in the city?Bicycle lanes in many cities are close to unusable. For example:- they are right next to parked cars and you can't ride on them without constant fear of getting doored- they abruptly stop and there is no obvious place where to continue riding- cars park on the bicycle lanes- bicycle lanes go right next to crowded bus stops and there are so many people that it's impossible to ride- crossings are designed in such a way
My issue isn't needing to pedal, it's the lack of proper bike lanes with physical barriers away from cars. If I could get where I wanted to go without worrying about a car coming into the bike lane, or the bike lane just being a swatch of paint on the road, I would bike much more often.I just moved away from a city that got it's first protected bike lane... but since it was just down one road, and could be walked in under 10 minutes, it wasn't all that useful to me. I actually don't know how many of the bigger cities look now, and I imagine most of them have bike lanes, but places like where I live have bikers just taking the right lane because there's no extra space. There also isn't enough space to expand the road to make room for both of us. Ultimately they're a huge hazard because they&#
Some cities have seasons. Some cities lack bike infra. Some people don't like bikes.
