you say that like working for someone else is bad - do you think your startup will have no customers? (for whom you'll be working_for harder than your boss)

You sound like you're the type of person who would enjoy working for yourself instead of for someone else. Have you ever considered it?

More reasons working for yourself is the only way to go.

Personally, because I don't like being told what to do :) If I don't have a significant amount of control I shut down, become depressed, anxious that I'm wasting my life, etc. I'm also wary of being taken advantage of. If I'm going to spend half or more my waking hours working I want to be reaping the profits. I need freedom. I've been directing product at a seed stage startup to get my bearings in the small business world but now I'm feeling antsy because I am

Create your own job, instead of relying on someone else. Isn't that the idea of a startup?

I'm currently working as a contractor and although the pay is nice, I hate working for clients / employers since you're always subservient to their whims. My contract was cancelled because they found a cheaper option (a hire) so now I'm working on my own software product. Of course you could avoid the responsibility of the company by simply not hiring people, and raising your prices until the demand for your work fits how much work you can do. And that may leave you more time and money to do what you really wish you could do.Personally I became freelancer to work on my own ideas. I do paid jobs for others, but it's the time between those jobs that it's really about for me. Working for someone else, I never had that freedom. Now I do. It's not pe

Is not about who do you work for, is about what you own. Running your own show makes you the owner of your work, you could sell your business, pass it down to your family, etc... when you work for somebody else, you are contracting your time, without any ownership, you can't leave your kids your Senior Engineer position at Google, but you could leave them a profitable business. Is like renting vs buying, sometimes makes more sense to rent, but most of the time is better to buy(long term).

This may be another reason people are eager to start their own company in lieu of working for someone else.If it is so, then it is a good thing. Right?

Are you referring to being a salary worker? I think that's what he LEFT to start making money on his own. Not having a boss is worth 5x his salary IMO :)
