what is misleading about what I said ?please answer that without making up any quotes.
You misrepresented what the article was saying - I was being polite in suggesting it was a misreading. Even if the article is wrongheaded, the alternative interpretation for you having done that is wilful misrepresentation due to whatever motivation or skewed perspective - which is part of the problem the article tries to address.
That's an unfair strawman, and you're putting words in my mouth which I really did not intend. (or even imply)
I think it's disingenuous to argue against words the above commenter did not actually write.
The statement about the intended meaning is there in an attempt to avoid this conversation. I was not putting the argument in their mouth, I was being bombastic in my criticism of their phrasing. If I was raising it as a serious argument, you are right, I probably wouldn't try to undermine it 10 words later.
My words included two options, one of which includes those words β and I disowned the first option. Please read it again and then read his comment again. Selective quoting wonβt change that I was providing a reflection of two possible reads of his comments, and I endorsed the latter in good faith. If you think my first option is unreasonable as a characterization to write down, Iβm not sure how I can more clearly express that this is a reading that someone can fairly arrive at - I just think itβ
This is dishonest. The author absolutely did not simply say "there are still people thinking it's not a big deal".
That is not at all what they said. Your interpretation seems disingenuous.
I didn't misrepresent you - the text I quoted was part of your argument. If you didn't mean it, why did you say it? If you did mean it, then why not simply stand behind it?
Anything can be viewed as a judgement statement if you paraphrase or stretch things enough. I don't think your paraphrasings are a fair representation of what I actually said. But you can insert "I'm not trying to blame anyone, but here are some suggestions to modify cultural norms so these things are less likely to happen in the future" if you want. Or you can just assume good faith and take that as implied unless demonstrated otherwise.
