why would you want to discuss politics at work?

It's only bringing politics into work if you disagree with them.

When was it ever okay to discuss politics at work?

One problem at a time.I think politics are work, when you're company is anything but small is nasty and taboo. And IMO a fireable offence when it gets to any level of harassing others for not sharing your opinion. There are times and places for certain things and I strongly believe work isn't one for politics. Unless the work itself is directly political.I've shared this opinion before on HN and had strong support, so I know I'm not alone. Especially among the introve

I applaud your ability to keep politics out of work.We created a hard rule at our company in 2016: No politics / No religion. Most humans are incapable of discussing these topics rationally, and it only serves to increase division at work. One person could not handle the idea of not being politically active at work, and we discovered after she quit that almost everyone was happier no having her toxic commentary omnipresent. In the best case scenario, folks like this are a big distra

Any & all politics at work is unacceptable period..you are there to do the job you accepted and agreed to do. Nothing more! Go create your own company that embraces and hires only activists with various views...I wonder how successful such a company would be?I was taught politics isn't polite to talk about it.... illogical (what politics are to me ...a pissing match driven by billionaires on each side fueling fires for their side and their sheep almost mindlessly following along ) v

In the last 15 years it has become impossible for two people to reasonably disagree over political positions because of how much vitriol is thrown around on the attention markets—even if both individuals themselves are rather tame. When having an otherwise normal political opinion makes you a racist bigot or a beta cuck because the opposition is so determined to get their way at any cost, no, you can’t just talk politics at work and have a cohesive team. Someone will feel op

Discuss the company's politics... without discussing your personal politics?

Telling people not to discuss politics at work IS discussing politics at work.

What is not correct? How is that related to the workplace at all? You're hired to do work. You don't have to agree with anyone else's politics to do that work. It's unlikely that all of your colleagues agree with your views anyway, and if you really have such a problem with the employer then you can easily choose not to work for them.I see no reason why you must discuss your political opinions with everyone else when they have no bearing on the work or job responsibility.
