Yes but why add the confusion of gamma correction etc and a small gamut?

TheLoneWolfling Jun 18, 2015 View on HN

Probably an artifact of the color space used.

Are you speaking of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_correction ?

The color you will use isn't in SRGB, but is in other color spaces such as Rec2020.

seanwilson Jan 24, 2016 View on HN

Doesn't this get in the way if you're doing graphical work where you need to know the colours are right?

therealmarv Jan 10, 2017 View on HN

That's more a problem of the camera and ISP and not color management and display.

astrange Mar 29, 2023 View on HN

The colors don't look like they used to because modern displays are much brighter and higher contrast. (and are 2.2 gamma not 1.8)

morio Jun 10, 2025 View on HN

Not really, it's the same color primaries just without the non-linear transfer function.

HappyTypist Mar 14, 2017 View on HN

It's a wider color space. It improves the color range of everything, assuming the source hasn't been flattened to SRGB.

Tell me more about inferiority of pure RGB goodness :)
