What political reasons would exist in Japan, that do not exist in America to keep reported crime down
I believe they are referring to Japan's low rate of violent crime: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Japan#Statistics
This is pure exoticization.Japan is fairly safe in certain ways - you’re not at risk of getting shot like in the US, sure. But the police and justice system is very dysfunctional, with crime statistics being under reported, and many murder cases being tossed aside as “suicides” or “heart attacks”.Even without taking this into account, crime rates in Japan are comparable to those of safe European countries. And this is not even touching the HUGE pervasive problem that Japan has with sex
Japan has a lot less crime than the US.
Japan has low crime rates because there is no visible underclass like blacks in America or immigrants in Europe. There are drugs that are partly or fully banned in other countries that are freely prescribed here (rohypnol, for example).Mushrooms weren't banned at all until recently. An ex's brother was prosecuted for weed but let off after paying a fine. Another guy I knew who sold was let off in exchange for his cellphone contacts.
Can you offer any insight based on your experiences in Japan as to why the crime rate is so low?
They're safe because their police make the US police look human. The amount of ways you can accidentally end up in prison with some extreme sentences is uncountable. I'd recommend watching any of the traveling channels to see their warnings on it for foreigners. Punishments for something even as simple as public intoxication can be comparatively severe when juxtaposed with, for example, the US where you might spend the night in a drunk tank if you're rowdy, or sent safely on your
It is accurate in my experience. I’ve lived in Japan for years and the only crime that is even remotely relevant to my daily experience is fraudsters taking advantage of seniors in my family. No petty theft. No violence. No threats. No assault. None.Having said that, I don’t gamble or visit host clubs and avoid making enemies in general.I often see your response about manipulation of statistics, but it is simply indisputable that crime is negligible in Japan compared to Anywhere, USA.
Aren't crime rates very low in Japan?
here's an example that disputes your assumption: Japan has much less criminality than NL, and has one of the harshest prison systems in the world. you can leave your expensive bicycle unlocked on a crowded tokyo street and no-one's going to touch it. you can leave your expensive apartment completely unsecured and no-one's going to get it. they even still have the baggage lockers all across their subway. a lot of this is due to how scared people are of their police/imprisonmen
