Scratch your own itch with a side project. It doesn't have to be public, just a little project that satisfies your creative mind.

I love building side projects but I can’t think of anything useful :(

Nice. This is the type I was asking for. Projects that give you joy and you don't care what the world thinks about it at large.

Hey you got it absolutely right.. i do these project for fun, as learning experiences, as self challenges and to keep the creative juices flowing.. it's how I enjoy spending my time and money haha

True but if you are building it for yourself then you will still have something useful in the end. Chances are that you also probably enjoyed or took satisfaction in the process of building it. Also, if it is truly a passion project and not just attempt to make money, it’s probably more interesting than most of the stuff shared.

Why not use that time to work on a personal project instead? Build something cool and useful and then show it to HN :)

I’m gonna do a side project because it’s more fun and useful to me.

Just create something for your personal benefit that doesn't yet exist. Something new or for a lower cost. Once you've built it, others are likely to find it useful as well.

Build something you personally would find useful. If you find it useful someone else will.

Maybe your intentions are wrong. Some people build things simply for the joy of building it.In each idea you've discussed, you could easily carve out a special niche version you need for yourself. If your goal is to make money from said project, well that is a different thing altogether.I personally suggest you abandon punching keys into a keyboard and get into something like hardware-hacking.
