If you really serious, you can set up parental controls with whitelisted apps on most phones.
This is crazy, friends told me apple was good on this, before we had to get a phone for our self, I now think they simply don't understand whats happening. It looks fine to non-tech parents i guess. The question is, what can be used as an alternative? I had first tried an old Android phone, but theres no way to disable app store, so kid figured out he can watch app store videos with no limit...
it's pretty easy to use parental controls to block such apps.

Why this can’t be a part of parental control function where you can restrict certain function on devices you control?
How much can you limit? Can you make it so notifications don't appear at all, or can you only limit what apps the child can open?

My 6 years old daughter often wants to play games on my phone. Some mode which restricts her access (I don't want her looking at Youtube etc. for instance) so I can leave her unattended with it would be very useful.
