more thoughts: tv is pretty different from youtube-instagram-facebook-etc in the sense that tv (for our generation) we could only watch was on on one tv, or find something else to do. now kids can watch anything anywhere! tvs, tablets and phones make it possible to visit youtube and facebook for hours and hours with no end...

Reminds me of people bragging they don't watch any television yet watch hours of Netflix/Youtube/etc every night.

By never developing a TV habit and instead relying on the internet to provide me with the few things I find enjoyable to watch, I've managed to reach a stage when I'm surprised that people actually watch TV, given the choice. If you've never done so before, try living for a week without your usual multimedia hit, there's a fair chance you'll like that extra few hours.

Sadly, watching tv is considered having a 'life'

People watch(ed) TV not for the actual content but just to pass the time. It was mostly channel surfing and once in a while you'd find a show that you wanted to watch all the way through. It was just something to do rather than actually consume a story line. Netflix has made consuming actual stories much much better and easier.

That's why no one watches TV!

This conversation makes me think maybe watching TV was a better use of my time.

Owning a "TV" is really irrelevant. I know plenty of people that only own a iPhone. Yet they watch hours of Netflix, AppleTV, YouTube on it.If you don't watch anything on whatever you're using to post your messages to HN then fine but if you do then you're still "watching TV" for all intents and purposes.
