Then use your own password manager that supports passkeys?
I'm still sceptical of passkeys. Either there needs to be an easy way to generate multiple ones, e.g. having multiple devices that can login. Or it should be easy to export and import them. I don't want to my account to be bound to exactly one specific device of mine... or to need to rely on some cloud sync provider (like Apple or so).
Wasn't the point of passkeys that they aren't exportable and are device/hardware-bound? If you can export your passkey and use it on another device then it's just an autogenerated password, no?
There is: passkeys and alternative password managers.
passkeys are ok, but passwords should also be an option if you wantonly passkeys is a problem
Passkeys are one of the non-phishable means for authentication. If something is easy to recover for user then its same for a malicious actor. Some platform based passkeys (apple, google) are actually sync-able across the devices. The whole Passkeys concept is under debate and discussion for what it means for different types of WebAuthn authenticators when it comes to the ability to sync the credentials. Alternatively one can use security keys which they can keep with themselves and could protect
That's not an inherent feature of passkeys.
Don't most sites let you create multiple passkeys which would avoid lockin?
You do realize password managers can store passkeys? 1password for example is adding support.
No, you don't, because it's not possible. Passkeys are essentially designed to tie you into an ecosystem.
