anywhere you go, friends, bars, they will get their drinks with straws. You can take it away, but it's not set up for it.

Perhaps it would be more useful to unban plastic straws, and then ban unsolicited straws.It's rather tedious to take a straw out of a drink, dry it off, and find somewhere to put it.
Most people don't need straws. Default should be no straw, but have the nice plastic ones available for those who request them.
The plastic straw does not win vs just not having a straw.
