Career-wise I'm a mostly backend software engineer whose done some data science-y stuff. Just think its fun to build sites like this, and I do a lot of speaking/blogging now, so its good for that!
Former, unfortunately. I work in tech nowadays.
my initial couple jobs were as a software engineer so yes. these days I do a blend of coding and marketing, as a developer advocate at AWS. good luck to your gf, pls feel free to send more qtns I think my email is in my profile.
I started studying electrical engineering after being a self-taught software developer for a few years. I'm basically writing all the software for the project groups I'm in, and I love it. I like this kind of code much better than your web app. (Though Matlab is a bitch, no namespaces, array indexes start from 1, etc.) I hope that I can make a living researching and building electronics and software.
My professional work has nothing to do with web dev/apps etc. I only do this as my own personal hobby (and in the hopes of building something useful). I work as a tech. BA/dev (role switching) in investment banking industry and deal primarily C++, perl, python etc. I have seen light web work when I was indirectly supporting E-commerce team which involve a bit of the web goodies.
Mostly web dev currently but I've worked in a few different domains.
Same here, was a backend software engineer, now even embedded ;-)
I've been a web developer my entire professional career, and for some ungodly reason I have this need to go work in the embedded sector instead. Am I nuts? ;)
Interesting, can I ask what kind of work you do? I'm assuming programming, what kind of programming do you primarily do?
That would be fitting, I've been a software dev in Crypto for the last few years! Just tired of sitting on my ass all day ha!
