I think you're getting downvoted because you're being snide about it, not because you stated the fact.

Wow. My heart-felt anecdote offended somebody. Down-votes don't contribute to the debate.

I think the down votes are for spouting nonsense instead of having a rational discussion about the article.

I think you're being downvoted because you chose to piggyback your comment on a seemingly unrelated one at the top, are being vitriolic, and didn't back up your claims with respect to their intent and refusal to change this.

People are downvoting you because you are making blanket generalizations that don’t meaningfully add to the conversation, and then doubling down on them when challenged. I thought maybe you would like to know what’s happening, but if it’s not wanted sorry to have potentially upset you further.

My goodness, why is this being downvoted? It's a rational presentation of an unpopular position, with some thought-provoking assertions of unintended side-effects: who here is punishing such comments?
