given that the US has spent[0] over $5,000,000,000,000 on pointless wars, redirecting even a fraction of that toward a necessary one should be a no-brainer.[0]: https://www.nationalpriorities.org/cost-of/war/
Most wars cost more than the expected return-on-investment. Some people value horrors over money.
The trillions of dollars was spent on what is the us military industrial complex. If the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost 2-3 trillion 80-90% actually went to american companies. One of the reasons it is hard for the US to get out of wars and decrease spending on military is that will stop the economic growth in many US states. If us gave billions in aid to fighters in Syria most of the money came back to the us through sales of arms.
Don't forget: Eternal war is expensive.
Because it was a pointless war based on lies that stole $1T from the american people. > Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
why down vote? US is in love with warfare, for past many decades, people make money off these events and as such make a lot of money. It sucks that this is so, but it is so...
donβt understand why comments like these are seen on hn,is every american responsible for the countless deaths the US and their profitable war machine caused?how about anyone living in [1]?I safely bet the majority of people on this planet would prefer money spent on conflicts be invested in research, development, health and education.[1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org&#
Wars are fought to protect oil supplies. A trillions of dollars sounds very believable
There is a lot of money being dumped into war capabilities, and as an American I would rather it go into making lives directly better rather then killing for unclear overall benefits.
You can ask CharGPT what "interests" mean in this context, it can give you a comprehensive explanation connecting these interests to GDP and quality of life of US citizens in the long term. You no longer can play stupid.FWIW US spent less than 100B in 3 years of war, it's nothing compared to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. And it serves an important function, "every cent counts!" makes no sense here as the goal is to prevent bigger confrontation in the future
