There's the possibility of geo-engineering.
Given that we've already crossed the point-of-no-return, I think some form of geo-engineering is the only way to prevent rising sea-levels, inhabitable conditions and human extinction. But I hope there's a way to do some sort of controlled experimentation first before committing to a "solution" and statements like this aren't very comforting: "Once those aerosols were released, though, we wouldn’t have a straightforward way to recapture them if the plan didn’t work
What makes you think geoengineering is going to solve more problems than it introduces?
A few people are talking about "geoengineering" approaches, e.g. pumping sulphur dioxide into the upper atmosphere to cause a cooling effect. But such ideas are pretty fringe, I suspect because a) they sound crazy b) that kind of intervention risks serious unexpected consequences.
Maybe this:https://www.economist.com/the-world-if/2019/07/06/what-if-ge...Don't know how to make the shortened archive.is urls."Dr Wagner suggests that the most efficient way to deliver it would be for geoengineering aircraft to be loaded with solid sulphur, which they would burn at altitude in th
If geoengineering efforts are necessary, the shit is already hitting the fan.
Are the authors against all geo-engineering or just this plan?
Perhaps geo engineering isn't such a great idea? https://archive.ph/AgLi8Also - just to show that we know almost nothing about unintended consequences - https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2022GL09...
geoengineering is the way out of this mess, not lifestyle change. see toplevel thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36616606
What's your take on the viability of geoengineering our way out of climate change?
