You can't block everything... facebook now shows me posts from groups I'm not even in and features comments from people I'm not connected with. They're not going to run out of groups
Facebook has lists and fine-grained privacy controls, use them. I've got a list for 'friends' and 'acquaintances'. The acquaintances list only gets to see the wall posts and photos that I approve as acquaintance-friendly.
Why not group your friends, and restrict your posts by default to people you actually care about? The rest won't be aware they are even being filtered.
This would be a great facebook app if you could set a group of friends and limit the info to just that group. And if you could be sure it wouldn't be broadcast to the whole Internet.
Have been waiting for the day when I can share information that is relevant to the portion of my friends that know or actually care what Im talking about... How has facebook not integrated this before (other than going into privacy settings each and every time)?

What I get from this article is that the author doesn't like his friends. Facebook isn't forcing anyone to show too much cleavage during Spring Break. The solution is to get friends who share the same ideals as you.(Another problem is that you want to grant access to your profile to someone, but you don't necessarily want to see their spam posts. If only there was some way to put people in "circles" or something...)
I can't comment on a friend's public post without it being broadcast to my timeline! this is the one dark feature that has most affected any good feelings I might have had towards facebook and my usage thereof
If I recall correctly, Facebook gained something like this in terms of functionality at one point: the ability to show only certain posts to certain people. I left shortly after -- that just seems exhausting to keep track of and generally not worth the effort.
Can I not share my FB friend list? Otherwise I'd like to extensively try it out
