Some people learn better with videos. It doesn't have much to do with the subject matter.
do you really watch these videos? It seems that video is a reallly bad format for such technical information. Much better would be plain text; or, if you want to be fancy, user-editable code snippets.
You still need the explanation, videos are not accessible nor search engine friendly. It's a good complement though.
I hate videos for technical learning. I will avoid them as much as possible, especially if I cannot play at 2x speed (or more!) and/or if they don't have a thumbnail-preview when skipping.Often I find that with videos:- I already know some bits and pieces about something - it is quite rare to be coming in 100% fresh to something. So I don't want to have to sit through all the crap I already know, or have to skip backwards and forwards getting past the pre-amble ("What
The video is definitely more engaging than text would have been. And I think it's a reasonable topic on HN. I knew some of it but certainly not all.
Not everyone likes watching videos.
What's the point of video when programming? That's just a distraction.
Good for you, but please understand that there are others who learn much better with a video tutorial.
Thanks for this. Seems like a topic better learned from a wiki article than a video.
I find them valuable if you don't need to write code to experiment with but can just watch the video at the regular speed and get the concepts that you can then use in your project. Also allows for watching while you do other stuff on the side.SymfonyCasts is an example where I like the videos. They aren't the typical YouTube style of "let me talk about random things for 5 minutes so I get this video over the 10 minute mark", they get pretty much straight to the point. The
