No, because Spotify is showing more and more that there priority isn't really music anymore. I don't care about podcasts. Spotify has slowly started pushing them more and more. Now it's costing them music. I'm not alone either, most people sign up for Spotify for music. I think many music fans really care about music and supporting the artists who make it.I don't care about Rogan or what he says. I don't want him censored. But the fact is that Spotify has less mu
Spotify already paid him $100M to make his podcast inaccessible to people. Where was the concern then? If Spotify limiting Joe Rogan from post the podcast to other services was not a concern then, why is Spotify limiting what it hosts now a concern? I see no possible philosophical distinction, but if you have potential justifications, please feel free to share.
Does this mean Spotify is censoring me because it won’t give me a multi-million dollar podcast contract?
You're making it sound like Spotify is a neutral host of Rogan's IP. That's not the case at all. Spotify bought exclusive rights to Rogan's episodes and then gave him a massive deal to produce more under their banner. This is Spotify deciding to silence themselves.
I only occasionally listen to Rogan's podcasts.I appreciate that he likely got a good deal out of it, but Spotify's ongoing efforts to link podcasts and their consumption platforms are upsetting to say the least, and I'm rather disappointed that Rogan decided to go along with it.Rogan has spoken at length with many personalities both part of and versed in smaller alternative media outlets and their ongoing struggles associated with censorship and platform lock-in. I’m unhappy that Spotify distributes my subscription cash to artists I don’t listen too, I’m even less happy that a large proportion goes towards podcasters I don’t even want as part of the app, and am unable to even hide from the screen.Hey Spotify: since I haven’t found a good alternative to your service, if I can’t stop your monopoly giving my money to Joe Rogan, can I at least have a ‘hide podcasts’ option?
It’s not YouTube vs Spotify, it’s Spotify vs every other platform. Lots of people just listened to his podcasts which can’t be cancelled.
I am slowly decreasing my use of Spotify because of the way it’s pushing podcasts while all I want is music from it. Best thing to do is actually to pay for Spotify and use it regularly, but never touch the podcasts. They have metrics and usage logging all over the app and they will know over time how few paying subscribers are listening to Joe Rogan et al.They'll soon give him the can if they know there's lower engagement than expected for the price being paid.
This is good news for spotify. They haven't been able to make any inroads into podcasts, video segments despite penning deals worth millions of dollars with the likes of rogan. They need series of controversies like this for people to even know that they now have content other than music. I haven't listened to rogan in years but now i am curious to give it a try.
Could be a bug, but considering all of the other episodes Spotify has removed I don’t think so. This is what Rogan signed up for when he made the agreement with Spotify.Does anyone else hate the interface for podcasts in Spotify? I rarely mix podcasts and music so it just doesn’t make sense having them both mixed up in a single app.
