Comments criticize organizations or authorities for being aware of problems for years but failing to act proactively, only responding after public attention or uproar, with debates on accountability and the need for earlier intervention.

Any attention from powers that be coming about this? Still struggling to understand why anyone would bother sweeping something relatively mild like this under the rug.

swift in response to public reaction maybe, they were aware of these issues years ago, they only started acting on them when they got air time. That is in no way a responsible stance.

Why aren't there any authorities going after this problem?

it would have been brave if they'd done so when they were alerted to the issues. doing so once they've been made public? not so much.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't been more proactively policing this before now.

It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, doesn't it? Why haven't they taken action until now? People aren't children to be appeased by such gestures.

Good thing if that happened there would be outrage for a week and nothing actually done about it.

rbanffy Mar 23, 2023 View on HN

Considering people deny it happened, we might need something more drastic.

As the incident demonstrates, the authorities won't take care of the issue.

Maybe the current state of affairs is despite significant efforts to combat it. That would explain some of the silence on all these complaints, since "we're doing everything we can and it's still happening" is more embarrassing than "we know it's happening and we're looking into it."
