Beware that battery life on linux thinkpads is atrocious, especially if you go for a comparable screen to a macbook.
The real issue here is battery life. Only 6 hours? The new X1 carbon from Lenovo can get 9, the T440s can get up to 17 (with extended battery), and the MBA can get 12 right out of the box.
How's the battery life as compared to Windows?
What's the battery life like on Linux laptops these days?
I find its all WiFi. On an xps 13 with ubuntu, I get 10-12 hours on low brightness without wifi, but often 4-6 otherwise with wifi. Its really nice for roadtrips.

I have an X1 (Yoga).Tiny almost weightless (feels lighter than current-gen Macbook Air) laptop, and it runs between 10 to 11 hours on the battery when doing normal work (programming, mail, web, spreadsheets etc..) on wifi with pleasant screen brightness ...Linux power management is fine today on modern hardware... (Powertop reports 5.2-5.5 watts)
I've got an X270 with the extended battery. Running Linux, it lasts over 20 hours with light use. It weighs less than the 15" MBP I had previously.
I get 16 hours under my Lenovo with ubuntu with tlp default settings. I have to be careful a bit with browsers (they use most in my workflow) but usually I just use lynx for programming searches. OS X on my MBP is ghastly: Apple replaced the battery and I use the same software as under Ubuntu but I struggle to get 3 hrs. On my Air it was wonderful. Windows I have not used for anything serious in 20 years.
Lenovo T14 gives me about 12h. However that's with the much faster CPU.
