This 1000x. Having an office space might make you feel like a "real company", but then again so will turning a profit. Having your own custom office space can be very expensive, especially if it's tricked out with all the stereotypical Silicon Valley amenities. The funny part is, most people don't care about those and would prefer to work remotely. So, you're paying more money to make things worse for employees.Additionally, if you're all in the relative area o
let your company pay for it. they dont need the big office space. thats how we do it.
It seems more like its to save money on office real estate and the fees that come with that like cleaning services, security, etc than it is about being employee friendly.
> Companies don't like paying for fancy offices that nobody is using. No one is forcing them to? That sounds like an argument for WFH, not against.
No thanks. How about a 10k pay raise you would otherwise spend on office space?
The reason is simple, it's cheaper than giving people offices.
Cheaper than giving people offices, I'd wager.
If I am doing "2 days in office, 3 remote" for my employees, why would I want to pay twice as much so desks can sit vacant more than half the time?
But shouldn't the cost go down for the company as well? Now they no longer need to use office space to accommodate you or provide you with a space to eat/bathroom/take breaks. Rent in the valley is a nightmare and companies could save a lot by not needing a physical space for the entire workforce.
Presumably, your employer could provide a stipend to you for WFH space. Perhaps that would cost them less than a seat for you in a building in a city.
