One possible reason: They are making a philosophical stand/statement against systemd.
Is it too late to extricate systemd from distributions? I am really sick and tired of this project ruining Linux.
systemd isn't a standard, it's a monoculture. There's a difference.
Is the complaint that systemd is so useful that nearly every distro includes it?
Probably because it shows the character of the systemd devs.
this links provide a better context on the attitude of the systemd developer: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76935
It's fashionable in some parts of the linux world to hate on systemd.
There are a few reasons why systemd left a bad taste in the mouths of many Linux enthusiasts:Systemd replaces (or tries to replace) whole swaths of OS functionality all at once, instead of addressing each piece individually. As a result, all of the systemd pieces are tightly integrated and nigh-inseparable, and critics claim this was intentional so that distributions could not easily pick and choose the parts they wanted. My understanding is that this is better now. In my experience, some pie
FLAVOR: allHEADLINE: Dump SystemDDESCRIPTION: I know this sounds like a nutcacke request, but Ubuntu has missed the opportunity of creating viable systemd competition. This is easier than writing an alternate display server. We are stuck with systemd monoculture which increases complexity and causes breakage for no good reason. There are other well tought init systems like openrc or runit.ROLE/AFFILIATION: Software developer, sysadmin
Systemd continues to remind me of windows. It keeps fixing what wasn't broken, and you don't get to say 'no thank you' without a complete OS switch.Yes you can argue it's the distros decision, but that ship has sailed and fairly soon there won't even be an effective choice.
