Netflix et al work on Linux but are limited to 480p.

Step it up a notch and see if Netflix works w/ its DRM.

Thats not really Netflix's fault though. Google Chrome (not Chromium) is the only browser on Linux that supports the DRM the TV/movie studios forced upon Netflix. With Windows Silverlight works in all browsers so they have access to the DRM.

Netflix works fine for me in FF, but you will get a prompt to enable EME (DRM) on first visit on linux.

I don't think Netflix's DRM is implemented in the browser.

Netflix's player actually runs fine on Linux and is currently touted as a major feature on many Linux-based devices (like Boxee). Netflix's player does not run on desktop Linux because Microsoft refuses to license the DRM component for desktop Linux use, though embedded Linux appliances are allowed to obtain a license.

From what I remember it basically does not work in any browser based setup - have to use Netflix apps or dedicated software?

Netflix works with EME on Chrome and Firefox. Netflix doesn't block Linux users. They just don't provide customer support for troubleshooting on Linux.

if they would want to watch Netflix, Prime, etc streaming videos: please check the support for those (some DRM sutff, IIRC)

You need something else than the Netflix App or Edge.Other apps/browsers are limited to 720P and don't use hardware-level Content Decryption Modules
