As a person who primarily uses Windows, I want my Mac's dock to be more like the taskbar. Not the other way round.
It’s interesting hearing you say this. I come from Windows and thought it was just me.I started using an app called Sidebar:https://sidebarapp.net/I find it superior to the dock. The applications on the task bar are persistent and only those active on the current desktop are shown. It handles multiple monitors too.It has a few quirks I haven’t sorted out yet, but the overall experience is much closer t
It looks exactly like the MacOS taskbar? Why isn't that one getting that much hate?
I use both windows and mac and I agree. It's why I hate that the menu bar on mac can't be moved (it clashes with the window buttons), and why I don't ever use the dock (I cmd+space for spotlight instead). Hopefully this is customizable
i'd rather see it on a w7/w8 taskbar and an osx task switch to get a "real feel"
My guess is they are just making a macOS style application taskbar default. I actually already use it that way on Windows 10, but there are occasions when I miss having minimized application instances in little rectangles. But these days I can run so many applications at a time that it quickly becomes too crowded to be of any use.
The top menu bar is a waste of screen real estate, even on a Mac - an outdated 1980s concept that was cool back in the day, but no longer (alongside the single button mouse). If you auto hide it, it becomes troublesome to click on browser tabs as a slight error on pointing to the new tab will make the bar appear and push everything down. I understand that many people like the macOS UI concept, but I find standard Windows far superior, allowing more screen real estate especially on small screen
I thought the vertical left bar is a "dock".It does not display the titles of the open windows and does not let me arrange the entries. That are the two problems I described. It feels like this is meant to be used on a mobile device rather than on a desktop. On a desktop it makes me way less productive compared to a normal taskbar.
I prefer Vista's taskbar - where running apps are grouped together.
A taskbar like Windows is useful to know what are your alt-tab targets, of if you need to open a new app. But good idea, I'm going to try the empty dock.
