is there a way to harness this heat for reusable energy?

joosters Nov 25, 2013 View on HN

Surely they can make use of the heat output at least?

SketchySeaBeast Aug 14, 2019 View on HN

It's a shame we can't convert that heat to electricity in some efficient way.

Scea91 Aug 29, 2016 View on HN

Doesn't the electromotor also produce excess heat that can be used in a similar way?

ineedasername Sep 21, 2019 View on HN

Couldn't the heat also be used to generate more electricity?

abdulhaq Mar 14, 2019 View on HN

You don't get those gigajoules of heat waste back at the end

Heat isn't equal to heat. Server farms produce relatively low temperature heat, which is almost useless.Look up entropy and thermodynamics for more background.

DanBC Oct 4, 2013 View on HN

I agree. Is there any work on capturing and using that heat?

landtuna Mar 5, 2020 View on HN

If it's cold outside, the waste heat is basically a space heater.

jgibson Nov 24, 2017 View on HN

Wind energy maybe. I would imagine heat is only useful if you have a temperature gradient somewhere.
