Was driving in the outback with some mates, and got a flat tire. We started to repair it, and a road train went by, and actually stopped about a 1/2 mile up the road. The guy came jogging back to make sure we were ok. That is when we realised we were in the middle of nowhere, and should be more careful.

I drove my car from San Francisco to Panama Canal. It took 1.5 years. What I will remember when I am old is fixing my car in beautiful rural Honduras, sleeping in a hammock there and talking to people. Yes, exactly, no questions there :) I remember here in the 90s (barely post-USSR Hungary) going anywhere with a typical car was almost like a choose your own adventure, where adventure meant something will randomly go wrong, and if you are lucky you have spare parts with you, or maybe you can simply find a workaround (for example when the cooling system loses all the water because the radiator suddenly bursts means you could still make progress, of course slow and stopping if the engine gets too

Many years ago I took a trip with my mother west from our home near Salt Lake City toward California in our crazy 6 wheeled van.
