Everything is addictive, they should look into junk food / sugar for once.
I think is not about accepting that fact. They probably know this. It's all about palatability. Once you taste something sweet and like it, you remember that and come back to it. An icecream, a soda, a croissant, chocolate, cookie, donuts. You name it. Is simple as that. You barely think about that the soda you drink is bad a thing, you like it and you drink it. Some people do think about this though and refrain from making sugary food a habit and I think that's the key. Making any of
its not just sugar. its the mixture of sugar and fat and other things that make food items more likely to cause over-eating. its called palatability. Theres a huge difference between chocolate, or ice cream, and chowing down on spoonfuls of pure sugar.
Agree with the sentiment, but there is a valid point to be made about the addictive qualities of sugar vs cocaine.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1931610/
Advertising probably not but the simple availability of ever sweeter cheap products and with time their integration in people's diet is a strong candidate. Especially since sugar is way less good than say fat at provoking the feeling of satiation (I can think only of evolutionary explanations for that, available sweet food in the wild, think fruits, are not very nutritive, especially ones not selected by humans over time)
If sugar and other sweeteners weren't so dirt cheap, maybe people wouldn't eat a dozen donuts for breakfast and maybe if these sugary "treats" went back to being treats instead of staples of the American, possibly other, diets we wouldn't be in this predicament. I agree that sugar is quite addictive. The craving for a pizza or ice cream can be overwhelming for me. Some of the food manufacturers in my opinion should almost be regulated like the tobacco industry. They do t
Carbohydrate addiction (and sugar) are a thing, right?
The problem exists in the first place because carbs are delicious and cheap. But sugar in particular has an addiction characterisc. Once you go some time without it, you don't miss it as much anymore. And fat is also delicious.
The reason is obvious: carbohydrates are addictive. The more you eat them the more you want to eat them. Brain scans show that carbs gives you the same kind of pleasure that other addictions gives you. To maximise the addition even more, you mix carbs, fat, and salt. The food industry knows this and does everything it can to turn consumers into addicts of their products. They have succeeded spectacularly.
I think those things are like eating your fill on sugar, it is maybe a bit tasty to eat but you feel awful afterwards. Some people just doesn't connect the eating to the awful feeling so they continue consuming even though its just crap. And I bet there are plenty of studies showing that people actually eat more and like the food better when you add sugar in it.
