Why subscription? Why not pay as you go?

If its not cheaper, just subscribe, but subscribing outright doesnt make sense

Consider subscribing, and then cancelling, if the monthly fee is worth a one-time use

I really dislike the trend of making everything a subscription service. I can imagine a niche market that wants to continuously delete content older than an arbitrary window but isn't this the sort of service that most users would need only need sporadically? The pricing seems to implicitly acknowledge this: $35/m billed monthly vs $8/m billed annually! Does everything have to be subscription based now? I know it is good for revenue, but it sure is a poor experience for the user. I would rather just pay $10 for 100 screens, if that is what you are charging, rather than tack on the /mo charge. When I run out, I buy more. Offer volume discounts for extreme purchasing over time, perhaps, but don't make me subscribe for light use. That's my initial feedback.

What's wrong with subscriptions? If you are getting an ongoing service (like Spotify, or HBO, or magazine delivery, etc...) it seems that an ongoing fee makes sense.

You're not the average person. You probably also don't have significant credit card debt or rely on buy-now-pay-later for making purchases. Subscriptions are a win-win for the average company and user - users pay less upfront when evaluating the product, and companies can rely on a steady cash flow to continue paying for development and ongoing maintenance costs.
