That's why many places in Europe also have nuclear weapons. They are a deterrent. I highly doubt Russia would nuke any territory they are trying to take over such as Ukraine. Other places it's possible, but the response would be equally destructive too. It's a no-win situation.

Zero. Russia has plenty of regular weapons to level Ukraine and big part of Europe (look at thermobaric bombs). It also has industry and resources to produce such weapons for long period of time. And it considers Ukraine ethnically related. Many Russians have relatives in Kiev etc.. Using nukes on Ukraine would be huge political problem. It is FUD spread by trigger happy westerners, who want to normalize nuclear war!

What makes you so sure? They have already said that certain events (e.g., Russia itself being "threatened") would make them use nukes. We are not going to blow up the world to save Ukraine and Russia/Putin knows this. If he decides to use nukes what are we going to do? What can we do?

If Russia nukes Ukraine (or anyone else) NATO would declare war on Russia, that's the only reason Russia is not using them

This isn't what nukes would entail, for either side. If the US nukes Russian forces in Ukraine - Russia is going to retaliate with large scale nuclear strikes on the US. It's for this reason that if the US did want to go nuclear, it would likely be with a massive first-strike effort directly on Russia, which Russia would respond with in kind. The US has wargamed with tactical nukes a bunch - it always results in rapid escalation to 'the end.' I'm sure Russia has conclude

There's no reason to say that any war with Russia or China will have nukes.Russia has been bluffing with this all the time, drawing "red lines" which will cause nuclear war - giving anything to Ukraine will have a nuclear response; giving artillery weapons to Ukraine will start nuclear war; giving HIMARS launcers to Ukraine; giving F-16 to Ukraine; giving ATACMS to Ukraine; saying Ukraine can shoot at all legal targets and not just those within its own borders will start a nuc

I don't think that the scenario where Putin detonates a nuclear weapon as a demonstration, or within the border of Ukraine would cause the US/UK/France to detonate one of their nuclear weapons to prove they are serious. Only an attack on a Nato country, with casualties, would bring a nuclear response.

I wonder that too.It has been said that you should never draw your pistol unless you are going to shoot. I don't know if that's true; but I do think it's unwise to threaten violence unless you are quite sure you are prepared to carry through.I think Putin is prepared to carry through (he's made the threat more than once). Russia seems to be losing in Ukraine; but they can't be seen to be slinking away with their tail between their legs. So I think there'

Even if Ukraine starts winning, a nuclear strike by Putin would trigger a catastrophic response from NATO and the international community, causing mutual destruction.Furthermore, with your logic there is nothing stopping Russia from keep chipping away at Europe because everyone is afraid that Russia will use nuclear weapons. With that rational, you might as well annex the entirety of Europe and call it Russia because Europe wants peace.

Yes, we do know how Russia operates - it has always been Russia's stated position that they won't hesitate to use nuclear weapons as first strike weapon if they have a direct conflict with any military powerful country or the NATO or the US. Thankfully, Russia is not a failed state and has a stable political system, with good political leadership, fully in control of its military. It is very unlikely that nuclear weapons will be used against Ukraine in any manner, unless more countries
